Celebrations of “San Juan” , on th 24th of June
The celebration is initiated on the 23th when on the most symbolical beaches of Almuñécar
people start to inflame gigantic camp fires.
The tradition consists in throwing everything , related to the previous year and that turned out
to be unpleasent , in the camp fire , so that it could disappear forever.
Doughnuts ( of olive
oil ) with a baken egg in the middle are distributed , they are delicious and typical in these
celebrations .
The people have got accustomed to swimming at 12 o’clock , at Midnight or just to cleaning
the face to wipe off the negative features and to be more beautiful from the beginning of the
following summer.
Practically all the village establishes itself on the beaches with tents ,
spending all the night and the following day on them.
The beach “Playa de Velilla” is , without doubt , the most crowded beach of those of
Almuñécar through the young people where they give vent to their feelings and
imagination designing the tents that install coloured lights in an atmosphere of music.
It’s a celebration that many people of Almuñécar like to enjoy , they are happy and
proud of sharing it with the visitors to this municipality .
